Fall 10 x 10 Outfit 4

Haha.

Yep, that’s how I’m starting out this post. Because my intentions from yesterday of doing a fall 10 x 10 with an infant are just hilarious.

Don’t get me wrong, I rolled with it, but I had already changed my clothes three times by noon. If the rest of the weekend goes this way, I’ll be done with my challenge by Sunday.

Let’s recap what I have left from my fall 10 x 10 challenge, shall we?

  1. Lucky boyfriend jeans (sold out)
  2. Black Wit & Wisdom jeggings (sold out)
  3. Buffalo David Bitton tee (old)
  4. Lucky flowy blouse (old)
  5. Old Navy chambray button-down (old)
  6. Lucky long-sleeved tee (old); Black long-sleeved tissue tee (old)
  7. Old Navy boyfriend cardigan
  8. Toms canvas flats
  9. Steve Madden Chelsea boots (sold out)
  10. J Crew Factory ballet flats

I decided to throw on a new pair of light colored skinny jeans. Instead of reaching for the flowy top I had on the list, I put on a pink long-sleeved tee instead. The reason? The flowy top is a more delicate fabric and the pink one being a heathered cotton could withstand spit-up more than the flowy one could. The conundrum was that the pink added an unexpected color into my 10 x 10. None of the shoes then matched, the boots were too hot, and the black too dark. So I decided to throw on a pair of leopard print slip-on sneakers I almost added to the challenge.

This was my new list:

  1. Lucky boyfriend jeans (sold out)
  2. Black Wit & Wisdom jeggings (sold out)Lucky skinny jeans (old)
  3. Buffalo David Bitton tee (old)
  4. Lucky flowy blouse (old)
  5. Old Navy chambray button-down (old)
  6. Lucky long-sleeved tee (old); Black long-sleeved tissue tee (old); Pink scoop-neck tee (old)
  7. Old Navy boyfriend cardigan
  8. Toms canvas flats
  9. Steve Madden Chelsea boots (sold out); Roxy leopard slip-ons
  10. J Crew Factory ballet flats

Outfit #4: Light-colored skinny jeans, pink scoop-neck tee and leopard print slip-on sneakers

As I was changing my little girl, she peed on my jeans. I thought, you have to be kidding me; I’m not changing again because of a little bit of pee. So I literally rinsed off the leg and decided I wasn’t changing again. And this is how I stayed the rest of the day.

It wasn’t too stylish. But it worked. For hours. That was all I could ask for. And you know what? I played with my daughter in it. I walked my dog in it. I ran errands in it. And as I looked up at myself on the mirrored back ceiling of the Walgreens on a late-night children’s Tylenol run, I realized I was too tired to care how styled I was. What mattered was that I could live my life in comfort. I think I let a little bit of Old Jen go at that moment and embraced a bit more of Mom Jen.

Outfit #4 Score: 10. It gets a perfect score even though it is the ultimate t-shirt and jeans look with minimal styling or layers. In fact, I have decided that the challenge is over for me because while I care what I look like and how I’m styled, life gets in the way these days. And that’s OK.

So I’m cutting my challenge short due. I think I learned what I needed to learn out of this, which is that you can rework your closet with few items and create different looks with limited options. But I’ll leave the actual 10 x 10 for a time when my little girl isn’t so little or I have a full-time laundry assistant. Or, better yet, I’ll leave it to the pros at StyleBee and Unfancy!
